【シューベルトの森 最終回】狂いさえも響きになる。名器1830年製ローゼンベルガーと調律師が語る「極上の弱音」

ミヒャエル・ツァルカ教授とお届けしてきた新シリーズ【ファンタジーとダンスが交差する「シューベルトの森」】も、いよいよ最終回の特別鼎談を迎えました。
今回は、2日間にわたるレコーディングにずっと同席し、私たちのために素晴らしい調律を担当してくださったピアノ技術者の野中絵里さんを特別ゲストとしてお迎えしています。

■ 鉄骨を持たないウィーン手工業の集大成

私たちが今回演奏した1830年製ローゼンベルガーは、6オクターブ半の音域を持つ、ウィーンの手工業における一番最後の時代の貴重なオリジナル楽器です。この時代の後になると、ピアノには金属のフレーム（鉄骨）が入り、スケールももっと大きくなっていきます。

■ 音楽界が追求した「極上のピアニッシモ」

当時の音楽界やピアニストたちは、弱音の美しさや、弱音（ピアニッシモ）の中にある多彩な音色に、特別な注意を払っていました。この時代のウィーン式アクションのフォルテピアノは、奏者のタッチによって信じられないほど多彩な音色を引き出すことができるのです。

■ 「わずかな狂い」さえも響きの一部になる魔法

歴史的楽器は非常に気まぐれです。例えば低音部は、弾かなくても湿度や温度の変化によって自然に不安定になってしまいます。
しかし不思議なことに、フォルテピアノの演奏においては、こうしたわずかな狂い（detuning）が重なり合うことで、楽器全体の豊かな響きを作り出しているのです。モダンピアノであれば致命的になりかねない狂いさえも、フォルテピアノならではの魅力の一つへと昇華されていきます。

■ ベヒシュタインへ受け継がれる魂の「対話（Zwiegespräch）」

野中さんが普段手掛けているモダンピアノの「ベヒシュタイン」という楽器自体も、実はフォルテピアノの要素を強く残しています。
私たちが追求しているのは、何万人ものための巨大な音ではなく、親密でありながらも空間で深く共鳴する、響きそのものの豊かさです。それはまるで、お互いの魂が語り合う「一対一の対話（Zwiegespräch）」のような美しさを持っています。

[Grand Finale] When Detuning Becomes Resonance: Unveiling the 1830 Rosenberger Fortepiano with Our Piano Technician

Our series, Forest of Dreams: Fantasies and Dances by Franz Schubert, with Professor Michael Tsalka, has finally reached its grand finale.
For this special concluding episode, we are delighted to be joined by Eri Nonaka, the piano technician who took care of the tuning of the piano with great devotion for the past two days.

■ The Culmination of Viennese Handcraft

The 1830 Rosenberger we played features six and a half octaves, representing the very last era of Viennese handcrafted instruments. After this era, a piano has a metal frame and its scale becomes much larger.

■ The Pursuit of the Ultimate Pianissimo

This was an era when the music society and pianists paid extra attention to the beauty of soft notes and the variety of colors within pianissimo. The fortepianos with Viennese action used in this period can produce an incredible variety of tone colors depending entirely on the musician’s touch.

■ The Magic Where “Slight Detuning” Creates Resonance

Historical instruments can be highly capricious. For instance, the lower registers became spontaneously unstable due to the changes of humidity and temperature, even without being played.
Fascinatingly, however, this slight detuning actually blends together to create the overall resonance of the instrument. What might sound completely out of tune on a modern piano transforms into one of the true charms of the fortepiano.

■ The Intimate “Zwiegespräch” Inherited by Bechstein

As Eri-san feels, Bechstein instruments itself strongly retain the elements of fortepianos.
What we deeply cherish is not the massive volume meant for a huge hall, but the richness of the resonance and the beauty of the intimate sound. It sounds almost like a profound conversation, a “Zwiegespräch” (dialogue) between our souls.
