【見えない劇場】第11曲「怖がらせ」〜猫のジャンプに学ぶ、息を殺して予備動作を隠すスリル

シューマン『子供の情景』の深淵なる精神世界を巡る『見えない劇場（Invisible Theater）』シリーズも、いよいよ終盤となる第11曲「怖がらせ（Fürchtenmachen）」へと到着いたしました。

■ 言葉遊びを楽しむシューマンの繊細さ

シューベルトを深く愛するほどに非常に繊細な感覚を持っていたシューマンは、音に意味を持たせるだけでなく、日本語の「語呂合わせ」や言葉遊びのようなユーモアを好みました。この「フュルヒテンマッヘン」という発音一つをとっても、ただ普通に発音することはできず、そこにすでに音楽的なニュアンスが隠されています。

■ 猫のジャンプに学ぶ「予備動作を隠す」スリル

今回、私が鍵盤への身体の使い方（物理的なアプローチ）として強く意識したのは、「猫のジャンプ」のような動物の直感的で自然な動きです。猫があちこちへジャンプしようとする時、分かりやすい準備（予備動作）はしませんよね。

この曲の途中に「Schneller（より速く）」という指示が現れますが、弾く前に大きく息を吸って立ち止まってしまうと、聴き手に「次、何かが来るぞ」と気づかれてしまいます。息を殺し、予備動作を完全に隠して音楽を仕掛けること。それこそが、この曲に込められた真のファンタジーであり、スリルなのです。

■ 簡単な音符に隠された深い意味と、名器の教え

この曲の楽譜自体は、初見でも弾けるほどシンプルです。しかし、その簡単な音符の中には、幾重もの層と深い意味が隠されています。
特にフォルテピアノを演奏する際には、極めてセンシティブなタッチが要求されますが、弾き進めるうちに楽器自体が「さらに深い繊細さ」を私に教えてくれます。

動物や自然の動きをピアノの奏法に応用し、新しい世界への扉を開く喜びを、1825年製ウィーン式フォルテピアノの響きとともにぜひご堪能ください。

The Invisible Theater: “Fürchtenmachen” — Learning from a Cat’s Jump and the Thrill of Hiding Preparation

Our Invisible Theater series, exploring the profound spiritual world of Schumann’s Kinderszenen, is now nearing its end as we arrive at the eleventh piece, “Fürchtenmachen” (Frightening).

■ Schumann’s Delicate Sensitivity and Wordplay

Schumann, who possessed a sensitivity deep enough to profoundly love Schubert’s works, not only gave meaning to notes but also thoroughly enjoyed humor and wordplay. Even the pronunciation of the German word “Fürchtenmachen” cannot be spoken ordinarily; it inherently conceals a musical nuance.

■ The Thrill of Hiding Preparation: Learning from a Cat’s Jump

In approaching my physical contact with the keyboard for this piece, I strongly focused on the intuitive, natural behavior of animals—specifically, a cat’s jump. When a cat prepares to leap from one place to another, it does not make obvious preparatory movements.

When Schumann writes “Schneller” (faster) in the middle of this piece, taking a deep breath or pausing beforehand would give away the surprise to the audience. The true fantasy and thrill embedded in this music lie in holding one’s breath and completely hiding any preparation.

■ Deep Layers in Simple Notes and the Teachings of the Fortepiano

The score itself consists of easy notes that are not difficult to sight-read. However, hidden within those simple notes are many layers and profound meanings. Playing the fortepiano requires immense sensitivity in touch, and the instrument itself actually teaches me how to be even more deeply sensitive.

Please enjoy the joy of opening a door to a new world by applying the movements of nature and animals to piano performance, brought to life through the exquisite sounds of the 1825 Viennese fortepiano.
