【解説トーク】シューマン『子供の情景』第2曲「珍しいお話」：魂に語りかける物語と、音符の奥に潜むバッハへのオマージュ｜Schumann Kinderszenen 2: “Curiose Geschichte”

『Invisible Theater（見えない劇場）』シリーズ、本編レコーディングの第2回目は、ロベルト・シューマンの『子供の情景（Kinderszenen）作品15』より、第2曲「珍しいお話（Curiose Geschichte）」をお届けします。
今回も、タカギクラヴィア株式会社様が所蔵する歴史的フォルテピアノ「ヨハン・クレーマー（Johann Krämer）」（1825年ウィーン製、80鍵、4本ペダル、ピッチ430Hz）を使用しています。木枠のシンプルなアクションと、驚くほど多彩な響きを持つこの名器を通して、シューマンの奥深い世界へとご案内します。

■ 魂（Seele）に語りかける「物語」
ドイツ語で「Geschichte（ゲシヒテ）」は通常「歴史」という意味で使われますが、ここでは「物語」や「お話」というニュアンスを持っています。
以前、セヴラックの作品で「おばあちゃんが私をハグしてくれているような曲」を弾いたことを思い出しました。
自分がピアノを弾くことに忙殺されるのではなく、まるで「私自身の魂（Seele）の中で、私に代わって誰かがピアノを弾き、素晴らしい歴史や、ちょっとした冒険、あるいは愛の物語を語りかけてくれている」かのような不思議な感覚。それがこの「珍しいお話」を弾くときに起こるのです。

■ 瞬間の色彩を選ぶ、4つのペダルとイマジネーション
この1825年製のヨハン・クレーマーには4つのペダルがあり、現代のピアノよりもはるかに多くの「色彩の選択肢（ポシビリティ）」を与えてくれます。
しかし、ペダルを踏む前に、まず私自身のイマジネーションが色彩豊かでなければなりません。
弾きながらその瞬間瞬間に、「次はどうすればもっとカラフルになるか？」「まるで新しい登場人物が舞台に現れ、私に話しかけてくるようにするにはどう響かせるべきか？」と探し求め、選んでいく。それはまるで、生きている人間と対話するような非常にスリリングで面白い旅です。

■ シンプルな音符の奥底に流れる「バッハ」
この曲のもう一つの大きな秘密は、シューマンが仕掛けた見事な構造（デバイス）にあります。
1840年にロベルトとクララは結婚し、二人は朝食の前後など、毎日のようにJ.S.バッハの作品を研究していました。
一見すると非常にシンプルで子供向けの可愛らしい楽譜に見えますが、その背後、音符の奥底には、常にバッハへのオマージュと深い影響が流れています。この曲も決して例外ではありません。その重層的な響きを、ぜひフォルテピアノの音色から感じ取ってみてください。

■ [Essay] Schumann’s “Curiose Geschichte”: A Story Spoken to the Soul and the Homage to Bach Hidden in the Notes

For the second installment of our Invisible Theater recording series, we present No. 2, “Curiose Geschichte” (Curious Story), from Robert Schumann’s Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood) Op. 15.
Once again, we are using the historical fortepiano by Johann Krämer (Vienna, 1825; 80 keys, 4 pedals, 430Hz) from the Takagi Klavier collection. Through this masterpiece, with its simple wooden action and astonishingly diverse resonance, we invite you into Schumann’s profound world.

■ A “Story” Spoken to the Soul (Seele)
In German, “Geschichte” usually means “history,” but here it carries the nuance of a “story” or a “tale.”
It reminds me of a piece by Déodat de Séverac I played previously, which felt like a grandmother hugging me.
When playing this piece, rather than just being busy moving my fingers, I experience a mysterious sensation: it feels as if someone else is playing within my own soul (Seele), telling me a wonderful history, a little adventure, or a story of love. That is the magic of “Curiose Geschichte.”

■ Choosing Colors in the Moment: The Possibilities of 4 Pedals
This 1825 Johann Krämer fortepiano features four pedals, offering far more “possibilities” and color choices than a modern piano.
However, before pressing a pedal, my own imagination must first be colorful.
As I play, I am constantly searching and choosing in the very moment: “How can I make this more colorful?” or “How can I make it sound as if a new character has entered the scene and is talking to me?” It is an incredibly thrilling and fascinating journey, much like conversing with a living person.

■ The Homage to Bach Flowing Beneath Simple Notes
Another great secret of this piece lies in the brilliant structure (device) Schumann implemented.
Around their marriage in 1840, Robert and Clara studied the works of J.S. Bach every single day, often before or after breakfast.
At first glance, the score may look very simple and cute, as if written just for children. Yet, beneath the surface and behind the notes, there is always an homage to and deep influence of Bach. This piece is absolutely no exception. I hope you can perceive this multilayered resonance through the tones of the fortepiano.
